There is a field in Shanclough called the Chapel field, and there was a catholic Chapel built on it in the olden times. The ruins of that Chapel can be seen yet on the land owned by the late Pat Rachford of Shanclough. The field in which that Chapel was built is beside the public road leading from Ballina to Foxford and mid-way between those two towns. Shanclough is a village mid-way between the Ballina-Foxford road and the Balline-Pontoon road.
There was a Priest named Father Kelly living in Shanclough about sixty or seventy years ago. This Priest lived in the derelict house now owned by mr. Joe Finerty. He was a near relative of Dean Kelly who was Parish Priest in Lahardane and who died about two years(continues on next page)- Collector
