  1. There are three Holy Wells in the district - one in Piltown, one in Ardsallagh and the other in Ballyheeney. The patron saint of the Holy Well in Piltown is Saint Bartholomew. The patron saint of the holy well in Ardsallagh is St. Brigid. The patron saint of the Holy Well in Ballyheeney is Saint Mochua.
    People visit the well in Piltown on 24th August and they make three 'rounds'. Its waters would cure a headache. They drink three cups of it at the well and they bring home some to those at home.
    There is a white-thorn tree growing near the well and having finished the 'rounds' the pilgrims hang a string on the tree.
