of headaches and other ailments of the head. It is also used in the cases of illness of cattle. This information was given by Mrs. Mary Meade, aged 82, on whose land the well is situated.
Numbers of people come to the Pattern on the 29th August from all over the parish and from surrounding parishes. Mr. Patrick Hearne, Drumrush, about 86 years of age, tells that he never actually made the 'Stations' - though he attended the Patterns. To his knowledge however, his father and others of his time kept up the custom of pilgrimage and the Stations. The Station consisted of making a round of the old churchyard by the wall inside on bare knees, while saying the Rosary. (This custom does not appear to be generally known now.) The pilgrim then visited the well and drank the water. In later years no particular Station Prayers or visits were made. People came to the well, said Prayers, drank the water and took some away in bottles. The Pattern has ceased to be held for about 40 years.
