    from all over Ireland to fish the River.
    About a month after a storm arose and the herrings went up the Ross River and the fish were so numerous that they grounded on the banks of the Barrow. Farmers manured the land with them and since then they have never been so plentiful. This year is still spoken of as "The year of the Herrings."
    N.B. One of the missioners referred to in story is said to be Rev. Father Willie Doyle S. J. (deceased).
