  1. The people of Ireland long ago used to make their own candles. They gathered the rushes and peeled them, then they dipped the heart of them in tallow [?] made from butter and left them to cool.

    When they were cold they dipped them again, and so o nuntil the candles were made.

    There was a man in every town for making candles and the people used to go in on a market day and buy as many as would do them for the week. The candles were sold at two for halfpenny.
