  1. Once upon a time there was a heavy frost and the lough at the top of Meenahinish called Loch Giolla Gan Ceann was all ice.
    The boys of Meenahimish went to the lough to skate and when one of them was sliding the ice broke and he went down to the bottom of the lough. When he was going down the head was cut off of him. This is how the lough got its name.
