  1. I got sowans often. They are made from oat meal seeds, and oat meal. They are steeped in cold water till they are sour and then they are boiled for an hour and a half and salt and milk put on them. They are steeped for about three days and three nights before boiling. When they are ready for taking, some milk is put on them. The more sour they are before boiling the better they are.
