  1. In olden times people only took breakfast, dinner and supper. Most of the people worked in the mornings before breakfast. There is a saying about this "people used to have half -a-day's work done before breakfast."
The breakfast consisted of potatoes (pirties) porridge (stirabout) and milk. The dinner consisted of potatoes, milk and salt, sometimes, or beef, home cured bacon hams or mutton.
Cows' milk and goats' milk were drunk. The table was set in the middle of the floor and the people sat round it, or sometimes near the wall. Oaten bread was eaten. Each farmer killed a cow every cow and it was salted and used till that time next year. Herring was sometimes eaten.
The people went to bed early and rose early. Wooden vessels were common before delph was introduced.
