    well.
About eighty years ago marriages were celebrated in the houses and after the ceremony the priest sat down at the table to have supper with the invited guests - a pair - boy and girl - was asked from each house. The priest did the carving. There was plenty of punch and a plate was passed round the table inot which the guests put 1/- or 1/6 to pay the priest.
