- There were not many shops out the country about 40 years ago. Pedlars used to go from house to house selling goods. They used to sell things cheaper than the shopkeepers. The people would give him some food instead of money.
If the people went to the mill with meal, they used to give some of the meal instead of money. This was called "Toulage".
There used to be a market held in a field near Kilmeen church where the monks were living there. That was about 200 years ago.
Long ago people used to gather old clothes and feathers and given them to the huxters.
