Match-making is a very old custom practiced mostly in rural districts. When a young man intends to marry he generally sends a friend to the father of his intended wife. Her people and his people meet in the town usually in a public house, where their respective fortunes are discussed, and even cows and calves are often thrown in to the bargain. The man's farm is then walked by the girls relatives, and if all are pleased the marriage is proceeded with.
