  1. Pollock was the local landlord. The families of the neighborhood had settled twenty seven years ago. The landlord was of the worst type. His agent Lambert, held an office in Creggs, and if the rent could not be paid the people were evicted. Sometimes too, if it suited them, they evicted people who had the rent paid. If the landlord was in need of money he used to raise the rent from year to year.
