- We sow about an Irish acre of potatoes every year. My father prepares the ground for the potatoes. The ground is cut into ridges before it is turned up. Then the manure is put out on the ground and it is turned into ridges. The people do not make much drills about this part of the country. It is with the plough the farmers make ridges and drills now a day. The people "go to one another" sorting[?] ridges. When the potatoes are set about a fortnight they put mould out of the furrows up on the ridges.
