“Owen Ruadh was supposed to be the father of many children born outside the bonds of wedlock...”
Owen Ruad was supposed to be the father of many children born outside the bonds of wedlock.
One day, in his rambles, he met a garsún, of about twelve years of age or so, and asked him:- "Whose son are you, my boy?"
"I don't know," said said the youth, "but my mother tells me I am a son of Owen Ruad's."
"That's a good boy," said Owen, "here's a half-crown for you, and the next place I meet you I'll give you another."
Owen went on his way, and glancing over his shoulder, he saw the garsún running through the fields towards the road. When he reached the road he stood and waited till Owen came up to him.
"Is that you?", said Owen, "What do you want?"
"Yerra", said the youth, "didn't you tell me you'd give me another half-crown the next place you met me?"
"Indeed ", said Owen, "You are* a son of Owen Ruad's."- Collector
