- The old people always had their own cures. In every townland there was a certain person who was great for making cures. Goose grease was rubbed to a person who had lumps. There is a well in Ballyvourney (Co.Cork) and people who were sick used to go there on Whit Sunday and give rounds. It is said that there is a round stone on the wall of an old ruin in Ballyvourney and when a person in the district gets isck the stone is rubbed to the person. It is said that the white of an egg and alum is good for curing sore eyes. Once a little girl had sore eyes and this woman who was good for cures melted alum and mixed it up with a beaten up white of egg. This mixture she rubbed on to the little girls eyes and it cured them.
