    Long ago there were no motor cars and on horseback travelling to a distance was done.

    Long ago there were no motor cars and on horseback travelling to a distance was done.
    So one night the Priest and his clerk were going on a sick call on horseback as usual. They saw this woman travelling towards them but stopping & turning away from outside the door.
    The Priest told the clerc keep his eye on her and so he did till he saw her going towards the second house and going away again (without entering) as if something drove her off. As before she went towards the third house and if she did the Priest followed her in. He asked the man of the house who was playing cards with some others,
