  2. There lives near Garryross school a fairly old man named John Kelly. It is said he was at one time the best runner in the county Cavan. One time he was in Dublin cutting oats for a man named O'Neill. He was cutting along the ditch with a scythe and what hopped out of the ditch but a big hare. The hare started running but John started also to see which of himself or the hare could run the quicker. Just when the hare was half way down the field he caught it by the tail and let it go again. When the hare was beside the ditch he gave it a kick and drove it across the ditch into the next field and his master gave him five shillings for what he had done.
