1. Setting Potatoes

   My father sets potatoes. He sets them in drills and ridges. He uses farm-yard manure and artificial manure When he is making drills this is how he does it He ploughs it, he harrows it and then he ploughs it again and harrows it. Then he makes drills and spreads farm yard manure along the shoughs. Sometimes he puts out manure with an ass and [?]. Before he sets the potatoes he shakes artificial manure. Then the slits are spread on the manure and the buds are turned up. Then he closes the clay in on the slits When he is setting lea land he marks out the ridges first. Then he spreads artificial manure on the ridges and spreads the slits. Then the clay is closed in on the [?] with a spade. When we are setting ridges we mark them out first. Then we stick them with a spade. The manure is spread over them after the drills are set a while they are mold. Some people mold them with a spade others with a plough. Most of the work now is done by a plough. When we are setting potatoes we do not set the full one. We put them up in slits We leave an eye or two in each of them. They always leave a piece after them called the [?]. If you spread, set the fully potatoes a bunch of stalks would grow out of them. If you spread the slits too thick you
