- Long ago the people very seldom wore boots or shoes. The boots were very heavily made and were called "clogs". They would not put them on their feet until they would reach the town or a Chapel. They would rather cut their legs than hit their boots on the stones. They would never get a pair of boots until they reached twenty years of age. The people long ago used to bake cakes on a grid iron on the fire. they made the cakes with Indian meal and bran and with wheaten flour.
