    up on the table - and you know they used have them big brass candle-sticks in them times; well she caught wan of them and she said something in Irish and she hit him straight in the temple with it.
    They dragged him out then in the yard and they beat him and kicked him until they killed him stone dead. Even his clothes were all cut to pieces.
    They all ran when they had the deed done; and those fellows went away out of the place for good. Wan of then, his name was Tom Stanton, came back years after. But there was nothing about it.
    But wait now, and you'll see how quare things turn out.
    When this boy was dead he came back again. But the strange thing about it was tht it 'twasn't to his parents he came at all but to an ould woman who lived near them. She lived by herself in a little house.
    When the ould woman saw him she said: "Yerra aren't you dead, John?" says she.
    "I am Joanie," says he "but I have not clothes, and I
