- This master was very fond of snuff. He'd nearly take snuff between every two syllables. He had the pupils seated on perches made of sods of turf and he gave them their lesson in spelling like this : -
C-o-n, Con (snuff) 'ná sé 'na con (snuff) n- agus s-t-an (snuff) ná sé na stan
Con n- agus stan (snuff) ná sé na con-stan (snuff)
Ti, ti (snuff) ná sé na ti-Con n-agus stan n- agus ti (snuff) ná sé na con-stan ti (snuff),Etc
N.B. Mrs Ryan said "n-agus" every time and
"ná sé 'na -----------How did the 2 N's creep in ?(continues on next page)
