    seldom a birds song was to be heard in the dark forest. The king had now paid out thousands of pennies. The king was very happy for he knew that the birds would get no more cherries. When the summer was over there was not a bird to be seen or heard.
    When Springtime came the worms and slugs and insects of all kind had a merry time and a feast every day, for there was not a bird to stop them from eating the leaves, barks and branches form the trees.
    The leaves on the great forest trees began to wither. The trees were dying and the king did not know what to do.
