- Once upon a time there was a man named Andrew Lynch FitsStephens, mayor of Galway, about the year 1498. During his period of office the Corporation of Galway started much useful work in the city of the Tribes. Amongst those was an important waterway from Loughathalia to Boulavorline which would open up an easy passage from Lough Corrib to the sea. This work was never completed and local people called it "Lynch's Folly."
