“During the Penal Days when the Catholics were forbidden to practise their religion, Tiernan O'Rourke and his wife were living in Dromahair Castle...”
During the Penal Days when the Catholics were forbidden to practice their religion, Tiernan O Rouke and his wife were living in Dromahair castle, Dromahair, County Sligo in the parish of Drumlease. One day a priest who was on the run strayed to their door and the wife appeared. The priest asked a drink of water, but the wicked woman put out her tongue at him and to her sorrowful amazement she could not take it in again. That woman's image with her tongue out is still to be seen on the walls of the tower in Dromahair Abbey.- Informant
