“One time a little girl played a trick in the name of the devil.”
One time a little girl played a trick in the name of the devil. She played this on Halloweve night. She went up to the mountain with a ball of thread and threw it into a limekiln and said when she threw it in "who holds the ball?" "I do," said the devil. The little girl got frightened and ran home. When she reached the house the devil came after her and stayed outside playing a flute. They did not know who was outside, but they said "come in". He came in and followed the girl everywhere she went. When she went to bed the devil went in under the bed and used to rise up the bed. No one ever saw the bed being risen esccept herself. The people of the house got the priest to read mass and when the priest had the mass read the devil came out of the house and brought the sidewall with him.
One day the priest was coming home from town. The devil came out before him and stopped him on the road. The priest took out his book and read a mass until he put the devil into a lake. The girl never played that trick again(continues on next page)
