It was a very hot day and they were complaining of being thirsty just then one of them said that he could smell ale as they were approaching the fort. They went on with the ploughing and when they returned to the fort again, a jar of ale and a glass to drink out of, was left on the ground. They then took a good drink, and continued their work. When they came to the spot again the jar and glass had gone. Nobody ever interfere's with forts because it is supposed to be unlucky.
