  1. The last of the people in this district who lived in the time of the Famine died about twelve years ago but there are many who heard it talked of by people who lived at that time.
    The yield of the potato crop in years before the Famine was so great that great heaps of potatoes were let go to loss at the backs of ditches and in the potato pits because there was no use for them.
