    They were often ducked in the nearest pond, or pulled along the roads, tied with ropes. Old bachelors got very bad treatment.
    Some local poet drew up a very humorous piece about all the boys and girls who remained unmarried. It was called "The Skellig List". It was done every year.
    Michaelmas Day.
    Everyone had a boiled or roast goose for dinner.
    Easter Sunday.
    Everyone ate from one to 8 or 9 eggs for breakfast.
    New Year's Eve.
    A cake placed at every door and window.
