- Once a man named John Doyle who lived in Skeoghvostheen was coming home from his neighbour's house at a rather late hour. He always took a short cut across the fields home. One night as John was getting in across the stile to take the short cut, he saw a little leprechaun sitting on the stile "Good night my little man" said John" but the leprechaun said nothing. He wore a little red cap, and he had a whip in his hand and he slashing it. When the leprechaun did not speak, John seized him by the neck and said "I will choke you, if you do not show me where you have your gold hidden" The little leprechaun brought John over a few yards from where he was, and showed him the spot to dig for the gold.
