    Mumps 7.
Gladum grows somewhat like a flagger in marshy places and is considered an excellent cure for mumps. It is first heated to the fire: two or three of them are stitched together to form a wide band. After being well rubbed with lard, it is then placed around the patients neck, and fastened in position with a clean cloth or handkerchief.
    Coughs 8.
Ivy is an excellent cure for coughs. It is first picked and cleaned well and then boiled well and left simmering beside the fire for a few hours. When it is well boiled it must be strained through a fine cloth in case any pieces of the ivy might flow through. Next morning it must be tightly corked after being again boiled and buried for a month. When it is raised again a glass must be taken each day. This is a most powerful remedy for a cough.
    Sore eyes 9.
A simple cure for sore eyes is to wash them in the morning with cold tea.
