The school of Ross was ravaged by the Danes in A.D. 840. It again appears to have suffered in A.D. 1127 when the fleet of Turlough O'Connor, King of Ireland came there and ravaged Desmond. It finally disappeared as an institution shortly after the coming of the Anglo Normans.
