  1. A man named John Herlihy, who lived in Knocknagoun, composed a poem named "Knocknagoun". He was a farmer by trade, but left his property to all his friends. He left Ireland, and went to America, where he is still living. It is not known how he obtained the gift of verse making. There were no poets among his ancestors, but the power of verse making came suddenly to this man. He had not the power of sending rats to a person like other poets. His principal poem was about his townland:-
    I
    Kind friends and neighbours, please pay attention.
    To a bit of poetry, that breaks my heart.
    I have dwelt amongst you those twenty two years,
    I'm feeling lonely, we now must part.
    To a foreign shore, I'm going to travel,
    And seek a fortune, whilst in my bloom.
    But If God will spare me,I'll soon return'
    To my friends and neighbours in Knocknagoun.

    'Tis hard to part with the dear old home stead,
    But what's allotted we must go through.
    It's harder still to leave behind me,
