  1. In this district there many different kinds of birds. Some hame rather funny habits others have not. The most commonly seen are the thrush, the blackbird and the robin. Blackbirds are very destructive to fruit but they eat a great many insects Some of the blackbirds in this district are coloured brown with a speckled breast, others are coal black with a yellow beak, others are coal black with a black beak. They build in furze bushes, in ivy, or in hedges; the nest is not well hidden. It is built of straw, twigs, mud and lined with hay. The bird lays four or five eggs. The ground colour is blue and is thickly covered with brown spots. The thrush is very common also and is a delightful singer. Its favourite building spot is in the middle of a thorn bush. There is another kind of thrush in this district known as the wood thrush, or rock thrush. They aren't so common as the other thrush, but are much bigger. The bird lays four eggs they are purple with red and black spots
