- There are numerous wild birds in this district the names of which are :- The wren, the sparrow, robin, lark, yellow hammer, blackbird, thrush, wood thrush, hawk, magpie, pigion, starling, rook, raven, snipe, wild duck, water hen, and many others including the cuckoo, swallow, corn-crake.
Most of these birds stay with us, except, the cuckoo, corn-crake, swallow, starling, and the wild duck.
The swallows come to us in April, and they go away in October. The day before they migrate, or on the day they are about to migrate, they gather together in large crowds on telegraph wires, or on the tops of houses. The cuckoo comes to us in April, and she goes away in July or August. A little while before the cuckoo is about to leave us her voice gets hoarse, and then she stops repeating her own name. In the cold weather the starlings come to us in large crowds.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
