    asked the old man had he anything to say. The old man said nothing, only that it was not his fault. The Mayor asked why it was not his fault. The old man replied as follows : "It was this way, your honour. Suppose you were a mare ; and her young urchins (pointing at the woman) came behind you, and pinched you ; and you kicked, and you lashed, and broke China ware. What law is for that your honour?". The case was dismissed.
