- (1) Fox and Goose

A Cross stood for the Fox and O for the Goose. Whoever won the toss placed a fox in any of the nine spaces. The opponent then placed a goose in the space he considered most suitable to prevent his opponent from being in a position of getting 3 foxes in a straight line - either across, or down, or from corner to corner; at the same time endeavouring to get his own three geese in a straight line before his opponent. The player who gets his three in a straight line first wins the game. (2) "Thaws". (The word was always sounded as I have spelled it). This game could be played by two, three, four or even more persons.
A "thaw" was a flat stone about this size and could be any shape but usually as near square as could be found. It was about quarter of an inch thick.
The players made a circle on the ground from two to three feet in diameter. Each placed a
