  1. With my rod and line in the Summer time
    As the shades of night gave way
    I hiked along 'mid a wealth of song
    From each leafy bough and spray
    By that castle old where Mc Cachara bold
    Kept Saxon hordes at bay
    And the calm Brogeen sang the nights requiem
    At the dawning of the day.

    I paused awhile nigh this Celtic pile
    And I mused on the long ago
    How the poets sang and the harp's loud twang
    Sent the dancers two and fro
    And the seanachie told tales of glee
    Of love and the chase and the fray
    Where the field are green by the calm Brogeen
    At the dawning of the day.
