    rose so high that it swept the parapet of the Bridge with it and was flowing across the road. A glavanized railing of the G.A.A. park which adjoins the Blackwater was also swept away. This has not yet been replaced.
    Despite this terrible flood there is no definite account of any lives being lost. While it lasted it was no uncommon sight to see loaves of bread and other necessaries being distributed to the people through second storey windows. If the Blackwater was an "Irish Rhine", Bridge St was indeed Irish Venice.
