    hold the sheaf of reed. He them takes off the old thatch and puts on the reed. He sticks the scallops through the thatch so as to keep it firm. The scallops are made of twigs. Points are put on them.
    When he has a slice on the house he cuts the loose straws with the knife and takes them off with the rake. Each slice on the house is a foot wide. The job of thatching is very severe in the frosty weather because the frost is on the roof and the man is on this.
    Each house is thatched once a year. The scallops are are stuck into punkitchers. This is made of straw and a cord is put around the straw.
