- (continued from previous page)of the name is church of Mochua Ballinamona means "town of turf". It got its name from an old bog that was there long ago. It was said that there was a bog hole in Ballimona which was the deepest in the district. Lisamota means the fort of the motes. Kilbeg means Cill beag. There was a small church there long ago. There was a Friary Church in Kilshane at one time, the walls are still to be seen. Loughawell was a place where coal was mined at one time, and it is now filled with water. Ballynamuckey is the name of Mr. Sheehy's townland It means the townland of a pig. It is in the barony of lower Connello and in the parish of Rathkeale. Most of the fields in Ballynamucky have names.
