- There are two forges in Ballingarry Joseph O' Shea has a black - smiths forge in Pound Lane and Thomas Fennell is a farrier. He has his forge opposite the downs road. The black - smith makes all farm implements such as ploughs, harrows, spades. He mends mowing machines, hatchets, shlashers, hand hoes and various other small implements. Thomas Fennell buys ribbon iron, reddens it in an open fire and moulds it into shoes for horses, donkeys and jennets.
