  1. In Pantenan district there are stories told connected with animals seen at night. On one occasion there was a man coming home from a fair about 1 oclock at night. As he passed Clifford's Cross he saw a man as he thought passing him by. After a while he found that it was a dog of huge size. All the way as far as the end of the wood the dog's face was looking at him. At the end of the wood the dog disappeared and the man saw him no more. The dog is supposed to be seen every night.
