- In olden times shops way numerous in this district. Sometimes articles such as cabbage-plants, and potatoes were sold at the church gate, after Mass. This method of selling, is not carried on in this district nowadays. Poor people who could not afford to buy food for their families, were often glad to give a days work in exchange for articles of food.
If a person had a certain amount of money left after paying for his goods he would say that he had that much to "Boot" Sometimes when people would not have money handy they would go to the shopkeepers, where they(continues on next page)
