    before setting them and they are called "scillanes"; these are placed in the furrows about one foot apart and they scatter the manure over them. The ground is not manured in any way before turned up.
    The farmer's work during the season of spring deals with the preparing of the ground for the potatoes and the setting of them. The small and bad ones are separated from the good ones, and put into pits.
