- A teacher named Mr Moroney taught school in the house in which I am now living in Milltown. My grandfather was a pupil. The teacher taught him for two weeks, then he went to the next house and taught for two weeks more and so on. After a time he returned and continued to work on the same lines again.

- Before the National Schools were built in Askeaton a school was carried on in a house on the Quay which is now owned by Mr D Hanly. My father said that his mother attended that school.
- Candle-making was done in every farmers house long ago. The candle-moulds were filled hot tallons, a wick and kept exactly(continues on next page)
