- Some toys made in the district yet - are tops which are made by boys or men. They are made out of a reel, or nobs of a chair or cot.
Catapult. Boys often make catapult to kill birds or to have an aim at something. It is made from a light stick the shape of a Y and rubber is fixed on to each top, the same length and then a piece of leather is got for to hold the stone, and it is joining the two rubbers together. - The children in this locality made their own toys. The boys made their own tops. They first cut the timber and shaped it. Then they bought their spears or else they got them made at the forge. The boys also made pop guns. At first they cut a piece of elder stick about 9 inches long and took out the soft stuff. Then they got a piece of solid with a nob(continues on next page)
