- A rock at the back of Ballyriggan Wood is called Gammel's Rock. It got its name the time of the cholera when a man who got the sickness went in under it and died there. His name was Gammel.A field also near Ballyriggan Wood is called the White Boys Field. It seems that during the time of the White Boys meeting were held there.
A field to the east of Thomastown Wood ia called Party Yoeman's Field. They say that there used to be fights there long ago between the White Boys and the Yeomen.
A field belong to Sherwoods is called Riordan's Field. The story goes that a man by the name of Riordan came to a fair in Kilfinane and sold something there and got drunk. Going home however he went into Sherwoods Field to lie down and got smothered in the grass. There's a furze bush growing in the spot where he was found.- Informant
