One of the grandest vessels of the mercantile marine.
She ploughed the broad North Pacific.
Where waves on high did leap.
Against her virgin figurehead, then floating on the deep.
She soon met the Atlantic, where wider waves did flow.
With fierce and frantic fury, against her noble prow.
There many an artful broadside she gave the billows steep.
And many a knot registered, her mileage o'er the deep.
She had a large displacement, Likewise a heavy freight.
Bringing to this country, four thousand tons of wheat.
And when our land was sighted, the crew gave a loud cheer.
When first the heads of Kerry saluted her career.
She then ran down to Queenstown, her record voyage was great.
There fourteen day for orders the captain had to wait.
And then the wire came flashing, quickly as the wind.
To sail the ship to Limerick for Bannatyne consigned.
The starting bells were sounded, the captain took the bridge.
The gallant crew got ready a task they did not grudge.
They then and there weighed anchor upon the mighty main.
And for the Heads of Kerry propelled her back again.
