“One often hears by the fireside in Ballingarry the story of Langley of the Iron Hand who fought with Cromwell at Clonmel.”
Whew Erin before Cromwell fell
a man of whew I'll tell you,
as they advanced to storm Clommel
Was the foremost in the melel

Charles Lawyley high, a maw of power.
Of all the hoops the best;
For whew they stormed the western tower
He towered above the rest.

A mower standing in the breach
With scythe to guardd the pass;
His hand cut off as if to leach
That flesh is still but grass
IV
But yet a gallant warrior's boast
might to his wounds [?] balm
For though his hand the hero lost
He bore away the palm
V
He could over that in the fray
where balbs and bullets fly
He had on that eventful day
