Long ago the people used not to go (go to) the doctor as often they go now.

Long ago the people used not to go to the doctor as often as they go now.
They used to have a cure for a cold and it was scalded buttermilk. They used to put the buttermilk into a saucepan on the fire until it was nearly boiled. They would take it off then, and put sugar and a lump of butter in it. They would take a drink of it going to bed.
A spunk leaf steeped in vinegar was supposed to cure corns.
It is said if you run up and down in the snow you will not get chilblains.
